Some say that sexual orientation ａｎｄ gender identity is a sensitive subject. I understand. Like many of my generation, I did not grow up talking about these issues. But I learned to speak out because lives are at stake ａｎｄ because it is our duty, under the United Nations Charter ａｎｄ the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to protect the rights of everyone, everywhere.

There is widespread bias at jobs, schools ａｎｄ hospitals. ａｎｄ appalling violent attacks, including sexual assault. People have been imprisoned, tortured, even killed. This is a monumental tragedy fｏｒthose affected ａｎｄ a stain on our collective conscience. It is also a violation of international law.

Any attack on you is an attack on the universal values the United Nations ａｎｄ I have sworn to defend ａｎｄ uphold. Today, I stａｎｄ with you. ａｎｄ I call upon all countries ａｎｄ people to stａｎｄ with you, too. A historic shift is under way. More States see the gravity of the problem. We must tackle the violence, decriminalize consensual same-sex relationships, ban discrimination, ａｎｄ educate the public. The time has come.

我要對這些同性戀、雙性戀或變性者說：你們并不孤單。你們爭取結束暴力與歧視的斗爭，是我們共同的斗爭，對你們的攻擊就是對我宣誓捍衛的聯合國普世價值觀的攻擊。今天，我與你們站在一起，我呼吁所有國家和人民也與你們站在一起。一個歷史性的轉變正在進行中，更多的國家看到了問題的嚴重性，我們必須反對暴力，將雙方同意的同性關系合法化，禁止歧視，教育公眾。這個時機已經到來。
